Becoming Your Best in the Workplace training (Letcher County) @ Letcher County Public Library

If you are unemployed or underemployed and live in Bell, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Letcher, McCreary, Perry, Pulaski, and Whitley counties, you are eligible to attend The Center for Rural Development’s “Becoming Your Best in the Workplace” training at no cost.

We have another training workshop scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, from 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at Letcher County Public Library, 220 Main Street, Whitesburg, KY.

The training will provide valuable essential work skills that will help unemployed and underemployed individuals in these 14 coal-impacted Kentucky counties find and retain gainful employment in an ever-changing job market.

Training topics will include:
• How to communicate effectively
• Prepare for a job interview
• Solve problems that arise on the job
• Professionalism in the workplace
• Putting all of these skills together to be the best you can be in the workplace

“Becoming Your Best in the Workplace” is one of the career and workforce training courses presented by The Center’s Business & Community Training Center.

Meet the Instructor
Jeremy A. Taylor, a speaker, trainer, and coach, will be leading the training. His mission is to help people see their value, recognize their potential, and live out their existence. He is charismatic in his approach to living out that mission by equipping, empowering, and encouraging people of all age groups and backgrounds. He believes wholeheartedly that “dreams do come true for people just like you.”

Free Concert! Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble @ Hindman Settlement School

Come enjoy an evening of excellent bluegrass and old time mountain music with the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble! This event is free and open to the public. No advance tickets are required. The concert will be held in the Great Hall of the Mike Mullins Cultural Heritage Center at Hindman Settlement School, located at 51 Center Street in Hindman, Kentucky. For over a decade, the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble has thrilled audiences with their shining talents and fun, lively performances. During their time at Berea College, student band members show off their picking and singing skills on stage in exchange for course credit, lifelong friendships and the opportunity to travel and share their music with audiences around the world. The band’s founder and director Al White is a well-known bluegrass musician, having performed with noted groups such as the Bluegrass Alliance and the McLain Family Band. 2020 Miss Southeast Pageant @ Godbey Appalachian Center

The 2020 Miss Southeast Pageant will take place on March 6th at 6:30 p.m. This elegant extravaganza is full of beauty and performances for all to enjoy. Come out to Southeast’s Black Box Theater in the Godbey Appalachian Center on our Cumberland campus. This pageant empowers young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, benefiting their college, their community, and themselves.

The winner of the 2020 Miss Southeast Pageant will receive a $1,000 tuition scholarship for one semester and will represent Southeast at the 2020 Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in May. The deadline to enter the competition is February 21st. Applications are available in the Admissions Office on all Southeast campuses. All are encouraged to apply.

This adventure will begin with a hike up to the top of Adventure Mountain! This is one of the most amazing hikes in the area boasting spectacular views and amazing geological features and all on private property! After the hike we will break for lunch before we head underground! This is the coolest adventure in the gorge at 55 degrees year round! We will spend about an hour paddling through the mine, even passing an underground waterfall! All gear needed for both adventures will be provided, including a hydration pack, paddle board, life jacket, helmet, paddle & a digital photo album of your entire adventure!

Join us for a benefit show on Saturday, March 7th at Emmalena Elementary Grade School to help raise money for both of their medical expenses. Enjoy live music, food, door prizes, silent auction, cake walk and community. Please come out and fight together for Team Tim and Team Angela while having lots of fun as a community. All proceeds go to Tim and Angela’s fight against cancer.

Hillbilly Hustle – A Festival takes place Saturday, March 14, 2020 in the Steam Engine Session Room. Doors at 3:30. Performances kick off at 4:00.

Performances by Charles Wesley Godwin, Giant Rooster Sideshow, Laid Back Country Picker, Wayne Graham, Luna and the Mountain Jets, Geno Seale, and Jen Tackett. Also featuring a reading and book signing by Hillbilly Hustle – A Novel author Welsey Browne, a tapping of Country Boy Brewing Hillbilly Hustle Lager featuring custom pint glasses, and a Little Bubby Child print exhibit and sale.

This event will also include GIrl Scout Cookie vendors and more.

General admission tickets go on sale Friday, January 31, 2020 at 12:30 PM. General admission tickets are $20 + taxes and fees. In the event tickets do not sell out, they will be $25 at the door. All sales are non-refundable. This is an all ages show.

Food and firearms are not allowed in the Session Room.

The Session Room is a listening room. All loud voices and conversations should be kept to the restaurant or outside during performances.
