The Knott County Farmers Market is proud to host the Tuesdays on Troublesome Food and Music Festival. The festival is free and kid-friendly! For our grand opening, local country singer Pierceton Hobbs will be performing from 5:30 to 6:30 and supper from the Knott Central Softball Team will be available for purchase. The Knott County Farmers Market will have vendors selling a variety of produce and crafts. Tuesdays on Troublesome will take place the first and third Tuesdays of May, June, July, and August.

Hump days are hike days! Join us every Wednesday at 5:30 for a community hike. Beginners and well behaved dogs and children welcome! Bring water and a sense of adventure. Hikes vary in difficulty from pretty slow and easy to fast and furious, depending on the needs and desires of the hikers. Come explore our beautiful trails, meet fun people, and get a little exercise. Meet at the softball field behind the Welcome Center across from the playground.

Levisa Fork PaddleFest @ Prestonsburg Tourism

Experience the Appalachian Mountains up close and personal. Enjoy a unique float down the Levisa Fork River in eastern Kentucky. The 8+ mile kayaking adventure will take you through the first established town in eastern Kentucky. Join us the fourth Saturday of May-Sept. for a paddling excursion unlike any other! Tickets are $15 and include lunch and shuttle service. Registration begins at 8:30am with kayaks hitting the water at 9am. Load-in is located behind Billy Ray’s Restaurant (101 N Front Ave., Prestonsburg, KY 41653).

*Attention WORKSHOP* We are planning on a forest farming workshop in Hazard, Ky. on the first Saturday in June! This will be an 8 hour class with lunch and drinks provided. If we can get 40 students, we’ll charge a $35 admission to cover costs for the teachers. Any money left over can be used for seed giveaways in the fall. The date may change but I’m looking to see how many may want to attend! The agenda will include growing ginseng from seed, growing goldenseal, value added products like tinctures, balms and salves, edible forest herbs and possibly marketing your products. Appalachian Family Folk Gathering @ Hindman Settlement School

Hindman Settlement School’s Appalachian Family Folk Gathering provides an opportunity for members of our community and guests from all around the world to share in a week of traditional Appalachian music, dance, crafts, storytelling, instrument playing, and special children’s activities. Our goal is to promote awareness of the region’s rich cultural heritage and to pass along these treasured, traditional skills to younger generations.

The 42nd annual Gathering will take place at Hindman Settlement School June 3-6, 2019.

Check in begins at 3:00 PM on June 3.
The events will come to a close June 6 at noon. Participants are welcome to register to stay on campus through the weekend and go enjoy Seedtime on the Cumberland at Appalshop in Whitesburg, June 7-8.
