You Can Help Change a Local Family’s Life!

This year’s event will bring together community members and groups from local businesses, schools, churches, and more as we build a home from footers to finish in six weeks or less! From Oct. 19-26th, we will welcome in volunteer groups each day to assist our carpenters in constructing the new home. By the project’s conclusion, we will present a beautiful, affordable home to a local, mountain family.

Don’t wait to sign up! Spots are limited and will fill up fast! Pick your team and your date and support your community!

Sign Up to Volunteer: https://www.housingdevelopmentalliance.org/volunteerinquiryform

We will have more information about the specific location of this event soon!

For questions about volunteering, please contact HDA Volunteer Program & Community Coordinator Jane Rose Britton at 606-436-0497 or janie@housingdevelopmentalliance.org.

Give now and your gift will be matched!

The Perry County Community Foundation is matching all donations now through Oct. 31 as part of their “Supporting Success in Perry County” program challenge. Your support will help us do twice as much for families in need of affordable, high quality, safe, and long-lasting housing – the family we serve during our Community House-Raising event and the many others we’ll serve throughout the year.

Our goal is to raise $5,000, which when matched by the Foundation will result in $10,000 for us to spend on making the housing dreams of mountain families a reality. When you give, you’ll be able to see the home you’ve helped us build and the family you’ve blessed.

Join us in making our communities stronger and better. Help us give our families and our region a brighter future. Each home we build is a message to the world that we believe in East Kentucky and that hopes and dreams live here, too. Be a part of our mission and watch your gift grow!

Boulder Rock Run @ Perry County Park
Oct 26 @ 7:30 am – 12:00 pm

QUICK INFO:

10K Trail Run & 5K Trail Run/Walk
Runners need to arrive by 7:30 a.m.!
Check-in & Registration begins at 8 a.m.
Race Time: 9 a.m.

Looking for a new adventure? You’ve found it! Our Boulder Rock Run charity trail run event gives you the chance to test your endurance on an intense, 6.4-mile trail run through hilly, forested terrain. Or if you’re looking for something a little less daunting, we also offer a 3.2-mile course that you can run or walk. Scenic views await you in an East Kentucky forest sure to be awash in fall colors! Whether you brave the trails on your own or bring along friends, family, or co-workers, you’ll love discovering Perry County’s newly developed trail system. Come experience Boulder Rock Run – the area’s premier 5K/10K race!

RACE DETAILS & BACKGROUND

The Housing Development Alliance (HDA) has teamed up once again with Pathfinders of Perry County to host the 2nd annual Boulder Rock Run! This exciting 5K Hike/Trail Run (or Walk) and 10K Trail Run is unique to our area and will test you, but also thrill you as you make your way around the newly developed Perry County trail system.

Located in Hazard, KY’s Perry County Park, the 5K course features a variety of trails, including old service roads, wide, multi-use trails, and single, technical mountain bike trails – all of which weave their way through an ancient and beautiful forest in the Appalachian Mountains. This course winds its way up a mountain and features one steep, technical (but relatively short) climb to remind you that this isn’t your run-of-the-mill 5K! Near the halfway point, you will reach the pinnacle of the race: Boulder Rock. The trail takes you directly through this impressive rock formation. From that point on, the trail is mostly cross-slope and downhill running to the finish line.

If you’re really looking for a challenge, sign up for the 10K Trail Run! You’ll go to greater heights, climb more steep hills, and spend more time in the majestic woods. Plus, you get twice the adventure from additional trails. Due to time limitations, we do not recommend that you hike the 10K course.

Whether your wish is to train, compete, test yourself, or simply be a part of the day’s action and give back to your community, Boulder Rock Run is an opportunity to take pride in yourself and in this place. All proceeds from this event, including all donations and sponsorships, will be used to make Perry County better for all who live here – through an improved trail system that shows off the natural beauty of the area and by providing more affordable housing for the people who live and work here.

Our goal is to raise as much money as we can for Pathfinders of Perry County and the Housing Development Alliance. In fact, now through October 31, the Perry County Community Foundation will match each donation. That means your donation will accomplish twice as much! The Housing Development Alliance is seeking to raise $5,000, which will become $10,000 to use towards building a better future for this region.

Every participant who signs up before October 20th will receive an official event T-shirt. On the day of the race, runners finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each division will receive a medal. Check back soon, too, to find out more about what we have planned for this special day!

Our challenge to you is to sign up and give a gift to Pathfinders and/or HDA to show that you believe in the future of this county and in Appalachian Kentucky; and, at the same time, you’ll be showing the community how much you believe in yourself and each other. It’s a total win-win, so what are you waiting for?

TRAIL RUN TRIVIA
The Perry County Trail System has been developed by Benjamin Braman, an avid outdoorsman, who, in his short time living in our area, has aided the local community in tapping into the region’s natural beauty. In just the last few years, Ben and the Pathfinders of Perry County have taken a handful of trails and expanded them into an 8-mile web of paths for people to enjoy. Come meet Ben on race day and experience the hills of East Kentucky!

EVENT SPONSORSHIPS
Individuals, businesses, restaurants, groups/clubs, and more are encouraged to sponsor the Boulder Rock Run event. This event brings our community together, and when you support us, we’ll support you by listing your name on the event T-shirt, banners, event flyers, in our swag bags (coupons, etc.), promotional signs, and trail markers! You’ll also get free publicity as we advertise the event on the radio, television, and in local newspapers.

Sponsorship packages are available, so be sure to check those out (link coming soon)! This event is unique, and in addition to promoting area tourism, it also encourages healthy living, community togetherness, and regional advancement!

MAKE A DONATION!
Boulder Rock Run is a trail run for charity! All proceeds from this event support two of our area’s key nonprofits – the Housing Development Alliance and Pathfinders of Perry County. Both groups are dedicated to improving life in the mountains – whether that’s through more affordable housing or developing our wild, rugged, and breathtaking terrain for local enjoyment and tourist attractions.

And now through Oct. 31, the Perry County Community Foundation will match each dollar given! So, your gift will have twice the impact. Every donation – no matter the amount – is appreciated and will be used to make life so much better for for the people of East Kentucky! Donate here: https://housing-development-alliance.networkforgood.com/projects/81677-boulder-rock-run OR https://donate.chip-in.us/?nonprofitId=110806

We’re here to help! Call the Housing Development Alliance at 606-436-0497 or Pathfinders of Perry County at 606-487-3537 for more information.
