We have several treats for the public scheduled this year. The replica of the Hunley Confederate submarine will be here throughout the weekend. The string band Unreconstructed will play on Saturday and Sunday, and for the ball. Our often-requested muscian Steve Ball will play period music and discuss the history of the songs. We will have two Abraham Lincolns– one throughout the weekend (Ancil Davenport) and available for photographs, and one (Dr. Greg Waltermire) from the Kentucky Chautauqua speakers bureau.

Activities on Friday, October 26, 2018 are open to the public. Many schools bring children as a field trip. This will include special Education Day events beginning at 9 a.m. Teachers can get more information about the activities or reserve a space for their class by emailing our Education Director, Tudy Cody at charissecody@yahoo.com For information regarding the reenactment contact Chairman Kerry Crutcher at (606) 653-8591 or kerry@tvscable.com

The events are all free and open to the public. The reenactment kick off will be on Saturday, October 27, at 9 a.m. when the camps open to the public. There will be demonstrations throughout the day. We have a Ladies Tea at noon. The main event is a battle which takes center stage at 2 p.m. with the re-enactment of the “Battle of Leatherwood.”  The Battle will be followed by a Heritage Ball at historic Stuart Robinson/Cavalry College Campus in Letcher, KY at 7 p.m. We will perform Civil War music and call dances. Everyone is welcome.

The action wraps up on Sunday, October 28, with the camps opening at 9 a.m. A church service will be held at 10 a.m. Another “Battle of Leatherwood” will be held at 2 p.m.
