Building Operator Certification Training @ MACED
Jul 12 all-day

Optimize your building performance with Building Operator Certification

Running a building isn’t the job it used to be, and investing in technology isn’t enough. A well-trained facilities staff makes the difference in running building operations more efficiently, saving energy and money.

The Building Operator Certification (BOC) is a nationally recognized program focusing on energy-efficient building operations and preventive maintenance procedures. The program will train facility personnel to understand how their building systems work together, and how to bring them to their most efficient level of operation. BOC provides access to the latest information, a network of peers and resources, and the tools needed to excel in energy conservation efforts. With its national accreditation and broad network, the BOC credential is recognized by employers across the country as a sign of the value and contributions certified facilities management personnel can bring to their organizations.

The KY Pollution Prevention Center and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance have collaborated to bring the BOC program to Kentucky through funding by the KY Energy and Environment Cabinet and partnership with MACED.

Topics covered include:
• Efficient Lighting Fundamentals
• Indoor Environmental Quality
• Common Opportunities for Low-Cost Operational Improvement
• Facility Electrical Systems
• Preventive Maintenance and Troubleshooting Principles
• Advanced Electrical Diagnostics
• HVAC Troubleshooting, Maintenance, Controls and Optimization
• Motors in Facilities
• Building Commissioning
• ..And More

For more information on BOC, visit: www.boccentral.org and www.kppc.org.

For questions, please contact Rachel Norton with MACED at (859) 671-0241 or rachel@maced.org

Hazard Soup – InVision @ Triangle Park - Hazard
Jul 18 @ 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Hazard Soup is a community building fundraiser. The basic premise is that community members come to the soup dinner, pay $5 for a bowl which is then collected in a “pot” of money. Participants and organizations then “pitch” ideas to the group. The group talks about which idea they think will provide the most benefit to the community, then votes on a winner. The winning idea takes home the pot of money and everyone takes home a warm meal and a chance to participate in community!

9th Annual Whippoorwill Festival @ Beattyville, KY
Jul 19 all-day

Registration is open, with discounted early-bird pricing now through June 1. https://www.tickettailor.com/events/whipporwillofkentuckylimited/235063

Jump in and join us for the 9th annual Whippoorwill Festival – Skills for Earth-Friendly Living!! This year’s fest is July 19-21, 2019, and will be held in the gorgeous Lago Linda Hideaway, near the Red River Gorge in Beattyville, Kentucky. Lago Linda has basic tent camping and improved campsites with water and electric hookups. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, plenty of parking, gravel roads, hiking trails, and a beautiful lake.

Are you interested in building healthier and more resilient communities? The skills and connections to do so? Whippoorwill was created in response to a need for a supportive, family friendly learning environment to help build the world we wish to see. We share traditional and modern living skills in a joyful, healthful and family friendly atmosphere. Join us as we celebrate Appalachian Heritage and new traditions while helping to build community resilience needed to face modern concerns.

The event is family friendly, and there are workshops and activities for children as well as adults. There are morning activities and evening entertainment.

Our workshops span topics such as: gardening, permaculture, natural building, tracking, fire making, stargazing, foraging, pottery, woodworking, appropriate technology, cooperative skills, herbalism, wellness/self-care, livestock raising, and food preparation/preservation.
We especially love workshops that:
Are taught by local instructors
Focus on the skills and folkways of our Appalachian region
Are aligned with Whippoorwill’s roots in the movement for social and environmental justice in Appalachia. This includes workshop proposals on monitoring soil, water, and air quality, extreme mineral extraction, bioremediation, community organizing, civic engagement, human identity politics, and cultural appropriation.

The Whippoorwill Festival is an all-volunteer, community-run labor of love. We strive to be as accessible as possible to our whole community, and our tickets are priced as affordably as possible, with early-bird specials and discounts for weekend package tickets. Your ticket cost includes parking, tent camping, and some meals (breakfast and dinner only). Please donate generously and know that 100% of your money goes to improving the festival – better workshops, music, food, and demonstrations!

Want to teach, perform or work-trade? Applications will be posted soon with further info! Workshops and Entertainment will be posted as they are confirmed.
